FAQ
Why do I have to install myMovo on my computer?
The myMovo application you install streams the media from the content provider to your computer. The myMovo server provides it with the addresses of the media matching your search - it streams the media to your computer and converts it to a format that your device can play.
I have a cell phone that has a video player, but it's not in the list - will it work?
We are currently in the process of testing and adding more cell phones. In the mean time, try selecting one of the available cell phone types and give it a try.
What are the 'topsites'?
myMovo topsites are what we consider to be the most popular sources for free internet video content. Please feel free to suggest other sites that we should add to our topsites search engine. For those topsites targeted by our search engine, we provide a breakdown of new content available by provider and category. We plan to add more extensive keyword search in the future.
Why do I sometimes see 'Updating Resources' when I start myMovo?
myMovo is self-updating. Since we are constantly adding new features, we need a way to do this without disrupting our users. When you see 'Updating Resources' myMovo is downloading the latest new features.
Where do the videos end up on my computer?
myMovo temporarily streams videos onto your computer so they can be transferred to your media player. The videos are streamed to a temporary folder c:\<Where your installed myMovo>\media. These files are deleted regularly as part of myMovo disk maintenance. However, if you have a media player that is accessible as a drive, then you can specify a location on the device for the media output directory, in the edit profile screen.
How do I play the videos on my computer?
The play feature plays the videos in the format that they have been converted for your device. If you have chosen the PC only option, you will have to install QuickTime on your computer to play the videos. If you have chosen a 3gp cell phone as your device, you will need to use a 3gp player.
Why is the stream stalled at 0 bytes for a few minutes but then starts eventually?
Occasionally, some streams get stuck at 0 bytes for a while. This is typically for sites that stream videos using a particular protocol, such as EOnline and ABC. The streams usually start eventually. You can choose to cancel the stream and try again later.
Why is the login area missing on the login screen? I only see the logo and the add banner.
On Windows Vista, you have to run myMovo as administrator. You can do this by right clicking on the myMovo shortcut on the desktop, selecting the Shortcut tab, clicking the Advanced button, and then selecting the 'Run as administrator' check box. If you have run myMovo as non-administrator and are having trouble even after switching to 'run as administrator', you may have to restart your PC to get myMovo to start up correctly.
How do I get the videos from iTunes to my iPod?
When myMovo finishes streaming videos to your PC, it will launch iTunes (iTunes users only). You will see new myMovo podcasts, or updates to previous ones in the iTunes podcast section. There should be one myMovo podcast for each category of video; news, reality, etc. If your podcast did not automatically update, you can right click on the podcast and select update. myMovo needs to be running to transfer the file to iTunes.
Now that the videos are in iTunes, you need to make sure your iPod is configured to synchronize with your podcasts. With the iPod connected to the PC, click on the iPod icon within iTunes. Go to the podcasts tab and make sure to select All or the podcasts you want to synchronize with your iPod. Then right click on your iPod and select synchronize.
Does myMovo work for non-US residents ?
myMovo streams videos directly from the content provider to you, just like you browser. Some sites, like ABC, CBS and MTV restrict video downloads to the US. Others, like YouTube and Yahoo are not restricted and can be downloaded in any country. myMovo filters out those video sources that are not available in your area.
What do I do when I get an error downloading a video?
Video downloads fail for a number of reasons. Some video downloads are time sensitive, so if you have a long list of downloads, you may not get to them in time. Sometimes the content provider may be unavailable or there may be a network issue. Sometimes the video conversions fail. The best bet is to try the video download again later. If it doesn't work after a few attempts, you can delete it and it will no longer appear in your search results.
