Welcome to myMovo! This page will walk you through the process of downloading and running myMovo, registering and logging in, setting up your profile and selecting and downloading videos to your media player.
How does myMovo work?
The myMovo Server is a video search engine which constantly searches the top internet video sites for new videos. myMovo software runs on your computer to stream video search results directly from the content provider, through your computer, to your media player.
You setup your preferences and perform searches through the myMovo website. Once you have filtered the search results you tell myMovo to start. myMovo then starts downloading the videos you selected to your computer, and then converts them to your media player format.
Step 1. Download and Install the myMovo software.
You can download the myMovo software by following the download link above. Instructions are provided on that page.
Step 2. Run myMovo Software.
Windows XP/Vista
When you installed myMovo, it created a shortcut on the desktop and an in the Start menu, under Programs/myMovo. Start myMovo by double-clicking on one of the shortcuts. The myMovo M will appear in the taskbar when myMovo is running.
Mac OS X (10.4+) Intel
myMovo installs in the Applications directory. The myMovo application is found under /Applications/myMovo/bin/myMovo.app. To make it easier to launch myMovo in the future, you can drag the myMovo.app icon to the Dock. The myMovo launcher icon is a green arrow.

myMovo requires Java version 1.5 to run. Some older OSX 10.4 systems have Java 1.4. If your system does not have the correct Java version, you will be prompted with the following message.
You can download Java version 1.5 (Release 4 or above) from Apple here.
When you launch myMovo, it automatically updates resources. The first time through this may take a minute or two.
Once the resources have been updated, the myMovo M will appear in the Dock.

Click on the M in the dock and select quit from the menu to exit myMovo.
Step 3. Login/Register
To login to myMovo click the 'login' link from any page on the myMovo website. First time users will need to create an account by registering. To login or register, click on the login link at the top of this page.
Clicking the login link will bring up a new browser window with the login/register page. This part of the myMovo website requires Flash 9, and you will be prompted to install it if you don't already have it on your system.
First time users click on 'New to myMovo?'. The Register page will become available.
Enter your user information and then click on 'Register'. You will receive an email once your account has been activated.
Step 4. Setup your Profile
First time users will be prompted to setup their profile. This is where you select your media player and other configuration parameters. You can adjust your profile or change your media player any time in the future by selecting 'Edit Profile' on the left hand panel.
Storage
This is how much hard disk space you are allowing myMovo to use for temporary storage of streamed media files. Once this limit is reached, myMovo will delete temporary files, including files in the media directory, until the total hard disk usage is below the limit.
Browser Location
The default is Internet Explorer, installed on the C drive. This should work for most people. However, it can be changed to any browser or any drive. A file chooser will appear when the "..." is selected. Choose the full path to the executable file. For example: C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/firefox.exe. The browser is used to launch the myMovo website from the taskbar, to launch iTunes for iPod users, and to play the videos on your computer.
Threads
The Threads setting indicates the number of execution threads you have allocated for myMovo. Streaming media and converting for different media players uses a lot of your computer's resources. If you have a slow computer we recommend one or two threads.
Run ...
This is a setting specific to the iPod and Zune. For these devices, we can launch the device specific software (iTunes and Zune) to automatically transfer the streamed media to your device. More information is provided in Step 8.
Step 5. topsites
The myMovo main page presents you with several options.
The 'topsites' feature allows you to add video sites from the most popular video web sites such as ABC, CBS, CNN, Discovery Channel, EOnline, ESPN, MTV, mySpaceTV, Yahoo!, and YouTube. You choose which sites you want in your profile - myMovo will download the new content directly from the site, to your computer and convert it to a format supported by your player.
The first step in the 'topsites' feature is to select the Media Sources you would like to add to your profile. The list titled "Select the sites to search..." is a list of all the sites available in your country, that myMovo has indexed. When you select a site, all of the available sources for that site are displayed in the "Available sites to search" table. You can drag and drop the sites into your selected sites. The single and double arrows move one or all sites. Hit Next to continue.

The next screen shows a list of all available video for your chosen sites. Drag and drop the videos you want into the "Selected for download" table, then hit "Next". This will take you to the download and conversion screen, which is discussed in step 9.

Step 6. DVDs and files on your computer
myMovo provides the ability to transfer non-copyrighted DVDs and video files from your computer to your media player. It does this by converting the file to a format supported by your device. To use the DVD feature, you choose the 'dvd import' option from the main menu. On the DVD screen, select the drive letter of your DVD player, then choose the language and the track. The defaults will work for most cases. You can also change the filename if you want to. Once you have selected the DVD, you can select 'Next' to get the the 'Stream to your device' screen and then select 'Start streams'. myMovo does not know anything about the tracks or channels on a DVD. You will have to use a separate DVD application to determine which tracks and channels you want on you device.

Your local video files can be transferred to your device in the same way. However, for selecting your files you use a file chooser.
It is possible that the file chooser appears behind the main browser window. In this case you can use the ALT-TAB to bring the chooser back to the front. When doing this, hit ALT and continue to hit TAB until the Java icon is selected.

Step 7. Web Search
myMovo provides a Web Search feature. This allows you to enter a search term, such as 'iPod touch' and get a list of videos matching that term back. You can also provide a complete URL and myMovo will extract the video or videos found on that page. Currently the search only searches for YouTube videos.
Step 8. Podcasts
myMovo has a feature to subscribe to rss-style podcasts. You do this by finding the rss feed of your choice and subscribing to it through the myMovo podcast option. Most podcasts have the rss feed available on the page with information about the podcast. Some pages have a link which brings up an xml file in a browser window. myMovo needs the url of the xml file. The following links are examples of the url you use to subscribe to an rss podcast in mymovo. Notice that some rss podcast urls do not end with the xml extension.
http://rss.cnn.com/services/podcasting/newscast/rss
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/mmedia/postpodcast.xml
myMovo will convert video podcasts to the format required by your player. Audio podcasts remain in mp3 format.
myMovo comes pre-populated with a default list of podcasts to choose from.
Step 9. Download and Conversion
This page shows you the status of the media as it is downloaded and then converted. When the process has completed, you will see a thumbnail of the media appear.

If you have chosen to launch the device software (iTunes or Zune), myMovo will run the software and the process of synchronization will begin when the download and conversion has completed. Otherwise, you can now transfer the media manually to your device. See section 10 for more information.
You can cancel at any time. The videos that have completed will be available in your media directory. Next time you run it will pick up where you left off.
The same streaming and transferring process is followed for all media input sources; DVDs, local files, web search, podcasts and topsites.
Step 10. Transfer to your device
Follow the instructions below for transferring the audio and video files onto your media player.
The Scheduler
Downloading and converting videos can take a lot of time and computer resources. The myMovo Scheduler lets you setup myMovo to run at a set time each day, while you are away from the computer. You specify a time each day (24 clock) when you want myMovo to run. The Scheduler screen shows you a list of the current sites you have selected in your profile. These will be included in the next scheduled run.

myMovo must be running at the scheduled time for the scheduler to start. You can tell that myMovo is running because the M will be displayed in your taskbar. You must also have logged into myMovo prior to the scheduled run. You can close the browser after logging in, myMovo will keep you logged in (although you will be prompted to log in when you log back into the myMovo website).
Five minutes prior to the scheduled run, a warning dialog will appear. You can cancel the run at this point. If you do not cancel the scheduler after five minutes, the dialog will disappear and the scheduler will start downloading and converting the videos from the sites in your profile.
Before you get started...
Downloading and converting videos can take a lot of time and computer resources. DVDs in particular can take several hours, depending on your computer and the device that you are converting to. The encoding for the Zune and the Archos in particular can take a long time, so be prepared.
We don't convert directly to wmv for the Zune. This can be a pain for you, because your Zune software has to convert the mp4 that we create to wmv for you. We don't have access to the proprietary wmv codecs for encoding at this time. However, myMovo can launch the Zune software when it has completed the conversions, and if you set up the media directory as a sync directory, you can automatically get the mp4 files converted to wmv for you by the Zune software. See the Zune section in Step 10.
